Overview
Connecting the club's social accounts is a great way of encouraging the club's members to follow the club on social media, and encourage the club's social media followers to join the club on Pitchero.
Once the club's social accounts are connected, content posted on Pitchero can be shared automatically with the connected social accounts (Facebook and Twitter only).
Social accounts can be connected with the club by Webmasters with full access to the Settings area of the club admin dashboard. The Webmaster will also need access to the club's Facebook and/or Twitter account in order to complete the authorisation steps that will then allow for content to be shared automatically between the platforms.
Connect a Facebook page
Step-by-step guide:
- Go to your club admin dashboard
- Click 'Settings' from the left-hand menu
- Click 'Social Accounts' from the sub-menu
- Click 'Add Page' under the Facebook page section
- Enter the club's Facebook page URL
- Click 'Authorise' to save the changes
The Webmaster will be redirected to a Facebook-hosted page in order to complete the authorisation steps to connect the Facebook page to Pitchero.
Once connected, the Facebook icon will show in the website header with a link to the club's Facebook page, and the club will be able to automatically share content posted on Pitchero with the connected Facebook page.
Please note:
The club can connect a valid Facebook page to Pitchero. The system will not allow the club to connect a Facebook profile or group to Pitchero (e.g. if the Facebook URL includes "group", "people", or "profile".)
Connect a Twitter account
Step-by-step guide:
- Go to your club admin dashboard
- Click 'Settings' from the left-hand menu
- Click 'Social Accounts' from the sub-menu
- Click 'Add account' under the Twitter account section
- Enter the club's Twitter Handle
- Click 'Authorise' to save the changes
The Webmaster will be redirected to a Twitter-hosted page in order to complete the authorisation steps to connect the Twitter account to Pitchero.
Once connected, the Twitter icon will show in the website header with a link to the club's Twitter account, and the club will be able to automatically share content posted on Pitchero with the connected Twitter account.
Connect an Instagram account
Step-by-step guide:
- Go to the club admin dashboard
- Click 'Settings' from the left-hand menu
- Click 'Social Accounts' from the sub-menu
- Click 'Add account' under the Instagram account section
- Enter the club's Instagram account URL
- Click 'Save'
Once added, the Instagram icon will show in the website header with a link to the club's Instagram account.
Please note:
Unlike with Facebook and Twitter, there isn't an option to share content directly from the Pitchero website to the club's Instagram account.
Share content automatically
Once the club has connected its Facebook and/or Twitter accounts to Pitchero, the club can share content with those social accounts as it is posted on Pitchero. This saves time for admins of the club sharing the content independently once it's been posted on Pitchero.
The type of content posted includes:
- News articles - club and team news articles
- Club events
- Match reports
- Photo albums
Scores and match events during the game can also be shared with the club's connected Facebook and/or Twitter accounts via the Pitchero Manager app. This can be managed either by a Webmaster or Team Admin of a team managing their game.
The type of content posted includes:
- Half time/end of period score
- Full time score
- Goals/tries
- Yellow/red cards
- Sub on/off
- Player of the match
Troubleshooting
This section covers common troubleshooting queries:
- Unable to access the Settings area of the club admin dashboard
- In order to access the section, you need to have the Webmaster role with access to the Settings section. Webmasters and Team Admins without this access are not able to access the section.
- If you have the Webmaster role with access to the Settings section, check that you are logged into the correct account on Pitchero. You can also try reloading the page in your browser, using a different browser, device, and/or network connection.
- Content posted on the website not shared with the club's Facebook and/or Twitter account.
- The social sharing options are available to Webmasters and Team Admins with Social Sharing access. This is managed by the Primary Webmaster of the club in the club admin dashboard > Settings > Access Control > Manage Access.
- The authentication between Pitchero and Facebook and/or Twitter may not be working (e.g. if the password for the social account has been reset or new administrator added). The club should disconnect the Facebook and/or Twitter account on the Social accounts page, then reconnect the account(s) so there is a new authentication in place.
- If the club has scheduled a news article to be published in the future (e.g. later in the day or on another day), the news article cannot be shared with Facebook and/or Twitter automatically. Instead, the club would need to wait for the article to be published on Pitchero, then share it manually with the club's social accounts.
- Updated entered on the Pitchero Manager app not shared with the club's Facebook and/or Twitter account.
- There is a rate limit imposed by Twitter of 200 posts per 15 minutes. Unfortunately, this limit is across the Pitchero network, not per club. Twitter is not able to change this despite our pleas. The rate limit is most likely to be reached on a match day with lots of clubs using Pitchero to update their scores and match events. There is a queuing system for half time and full time scores only. Any match events (e.g. goals/tries) caught by the rate limit would not be queued to be shared later as the event might be outdated by the time it's posted.
